I completely understand the desire to have Senator Warren challenge Secretary Clinton. The debates would be brilliant and for the century. But, Senator Warren has repeatedly stated that she is not/will not run for President for 2016.
Women should be taken for their words. They are not to be reduced to objects of desire on a political plane -- no more than a sexual one. I think we need to cultivate a younger generation of strong intelligent woman in our party which means let's not forget our local elections. I am lucky to have a great youngish Democrat who represents me in my State district. She should be looking at higher office -- I bet she is.
You all have women like that -- they just need our support with feet on the ground and GOTVs. I'm pretty sure Hillary will be our nominee. Unlike 2008, this fact does not make me sad. I think she needs leftists to challenge her agenda. But they won't be Barack Obama redux.
I've been listening to strong women tonight. Music, not politics. Well, ok music and politics in the sense that life involves politics.
Tracy Chapman is beloved by me since she was a shy young thing decades ago.
Beauty, grace, class, talent. She sings of real life.
Utterly gorgeous kd lang who can sing anything (ok, not opera) as a youngster with Roy Orbison. Scary thing to do with a legend and yet she did it. She is still a role model for so many girls and women. Humble, beautiful, and a voice of the ages.
Nina Simone -- fuck ya'll. I'm a goddammed talented black woman and I am going to stick it to you with this song. A woman who shouldn't have lived such a tortured life but that is what this country has/does to folks who don't fit the form.
Joni Mitchell -- my youth when all I listened to was 60s folk. Judy Collins, Bob Dylan, James Taylor, Pete Seeger, etc. Women, men who believed stuff. I only want someone in the WH who will believe in some sane stuff -- I already know there will be not so sane stuff since no President in the country has had all sane stuff -- please don't bring up FDR.
I admit I will watch the inevitable flame wars but hope to minimize any participation. I know SCOTUS is critical but for me -- not letting our country be bought by the billionaires is more critical. If we could just pool our pennies and fight their zillions and watch them lose would be a thing of beauty.
For the already professed non-voters -- you are marginalized. No one should listen or respond to you. For those of you who will vote to prevent the Koch Brothers from owning our lives, I join you.
Cat Stevens really does know stuff -- and a great tune from Harold and Maude.
Blessings. We have folks on this site who are suffering -- let's put our energy towards thinking positive thoughts for them rather than destroying each other.
