My 18 year old son is smart and caring, but does not share my interest in politics.
This afternoon, he says: "So, Mom, did you hear the biggest news in politics today?"
"Super Tuesday?" I look up from my computer screen, where I've been tweeting away, prepared to launch into an explanation of today's horse race results.
He shakes his head. "Kony."
"Never heard of him," I say.
He emails me the video.
And while I watch, Van Jones tweets:
WOW. This is the most impressive video advocacy campaign I have ever seen. Spread the word. KONY 2012: http://youtu.be/... via @youtube
And while I watch, Roger Ebert
tweets:
"Kony 2012," a viral video exploding with hits, attacks a Ugandan exploiter of child warriors. Devastating. http://dld.bz/...
And after I watch it, the Super Tuesday horse race fades away into so much silliness.
They're organizing in Los Angeles to make Kony famous.
They're organizing in my sleepy little bedroom community that the kids call "the bubble" to make Kony famous.
They're organizing across the world to make Kony famous.
Join them on April 20.
8:30 AM PT: Important update: per comments, the Kony 2012 charity may be questionable. Awareness is good; sending funds not necessarily so.
