An East Point man held a would-be carjacker at gunpoint until police arrived and arrested the suspect, according to Atlanta police.
Wait, but this sounds like just a RKBA story. Well, yes it could be that, but there is SO MUCH MORE to it.
Follow below and be prepared to be shocked as I was
Now for more
(there is a good video here, but I am terrible at trying to embed video)
The car owner kept the suspect, Edgar Horn, 61, at gunpoint face down in the parking lot for several minutes until police arrived.
When police arrived, you can see Fannin wave them over, and put his gun down. The police officer shakes his hand, before putting the suspect in handcuffs.
What makes this a story amaze me is the participants in this story:
We have an African-American (Hashim Fannin) as the would be victim, who holds the white criminal at bay with his gun in a responsible manner. (Note: Do not read anything into that, because it is the next part that is the big point)
The police arrive, Hashim Fannin correctly lays his weapon on the ground. The police, seeing an African-American with a weapon, go over to him and SHAKE HIS HAND! Yes! The police see a law abiding African-American man with a legal weapon and not only do they not go into full violent mode, they show him respect and SHAKE HIS HAND!
I am not going to say that America by any means has turned a corner, but a story like this is a pleasure to read, instead of what normally happens when the police come across an African-American male with a legally owned weapon.
Yes, I know the RKBA crowd will shout about how this as a great story for their cause. But to me, that is very minor. What IS important is that the police did THE RIGHT THING (And if you have read what I usually write about the police, you know this isn't like me to praise them)
I would like to say well done to:
Hashim Fannin: You acted in a very responsible manner and didn't use it as an excuse to injure/kill someone like some people who carry weapons.
Atlanta Police Force: Keep up the good and proper police work like this. Continue to work for the public and support them. By acting the way you did in this story, you show what policing SHOULD BE in America. In this story you are a CREDIT to your profession.
And to the would be robber, Edgar Horn. You need to thank G-d (or what deities you may believe in) that Hashim Fannin acted in a very responsible manner and that you are still alive and healthy today!
